It's superb! Alex has worked really hard for this gold medal. He took to handcycling like a duck to water and has not only performed very well, but has advanced the state of his sport by the developments he's pushed through. Pity nobody seemed to have any recording equipment for TV or radio commentary. That said, Speed has got a photo gallery of Zanardi - mostly of him celebrating.

Don't forget that Alex is in 2 more races (the road handcycle race on Thursday and mixed handcycle relay on Friday), so he could become a triple medallist. Wouldn't that be fantastic?

As all through his life he has shown whenever he goes he pushes the limits, in every possible way. Too bad we didn't see the vintage Alex in F1, as that was one of worse season for Williams. And coming back from that horrific accident, and still race with prosthetic legs say a lot about the character of this great racer. And he still makes it to Olympic gold, because of his integrity and perseverance.

Alex now has 2 individual Paralympic golds (for time trial and road race) and 1 team silver Paralympic medal (the relay race, where they were just beaten by the Americans).
