Jake to leave BBC F1 team to concentrate on Footy
« on: September 18, 2012, 12:17:15 PM »

Maybe Caterham leaving his home county was final straw.  :D

Who is going to wind up EJ then? Coulthard is not capable of that essential task.  ;)

Jake Humphrey will leave the BBC's Formula One coverage at the end of the 2012 season as he switches broadcasters to focus on football.

Humphrey has presented the BBC's coverage since it regained rights in 2009, and continued to front it despite the broadcaster losing exclusive rights to Sky Sports last year and only showing 10 races live this season. However, it has now been announced that Humphrey is moving to BT to present its Premier League football coverage from the start of the 2013/2014 season.

The BBC has seen a number of big names leave since losing exclusive Formula One rights, with Martin Brundle, Ted Kravitz, Natalie Pinkham and Anthony Davidson all switching to Sky Sports at the start of this season.

The current contract which sees the BBC showing ten races live per season runs until 2018.

Leaving F1 for soccer??  :swoon:

Does your National Health Service over there cover psychiatric care?

The BBC is trying to break up the best F1 coverage so
Sky looks better

Jake only stayed as long as he did because he wanted to be involved in the Olympic coverage, that much was publicised a while ago.  Pity as he was a good presenter.

if you want to be a famous sports presenter, footy is a better place to be than F1.

Jake was plucked from obscurity by BBC and given a plum job (which he does very well).
I think it is really shallow to make this jump just for money (he has admitted as much) and then to BT of all people!
I have no idea of how the BT football coverage will be screened but with so many big names already involved in football I cannot see how he hopes to get a long career out of this move.
It is a big blow to people like me who still favours BBC's coverage over Sky.
Sky may have a big team of celebs but the presentation is still patchy.
Brundle is excellent, the Herbert and Hill chats give a nice insight to a drivers point of view.
Georgie Thompson is more interested in trying to look like a model than talk about F1, it is hilarious to see her always trying to stand with her boobs and bum thrusting out and pouting her lips. This leaves Ant looking decidely akward as he is running through some detailed analysis of what lines driver X took in comparison to what driver Y was doing.
Simon Lazenby is nothing more than OK but with his awful joke about Monacco ('There are twisty roads in Monaco.... just ask Princess Grace') and then getting drunk on an Easyjet flight following Valencia, he may not be around much longer.
Ted Cravitz remains as useless as he was with ITV.
The BBC is just so much more professional and watchable.

Who do we think should replace Jake?
My first offer - Steve Parrish. I know he is a biker but I really like his presenting style.

Lazenby is definitely Sky's weak link during races.  Jake would have been much better.  He will be lost doing football really.  ITV dumped Adrian Chiles on their football coverage after realising he was too rubbish doing his main job as a general interest presenter.

The only person I can name that has anything to do with soccer is that Beckam guy. I know of about a bizzilion F1 folks.  ;)
