This is such an awesome sight! I would love to have seen this with my own eyes.

Agreed Dave, that would be an amazing thing to see in person.

I never realized the 747 she rides on had a modified rear wing.  :DntKnw:

Awesome sight.  I hope the US gets back into the space game once the economy picks up pace and the Defence (or should we say Offence) budget is slashed.

Sure was an awesome sight Dave, I loved to go onto the NASA website to watch a launch, to see the launch through so many differently sited cameras was superb.

I did see the Jumbo/Shuttle flying piggy back as the two flew into Stansted Airport in the 80s when Nasa took the Shuttle 'Enterprise' on the back of the 747 round Europe, maybe even the World.

We watched the approach to the Airport from a road bridge over the M11 motorway, just outside Bishop's Stortford, and could see all but the final touchdown. A day later we went to the Airport where crowds were allowed right up close to the Jumbo/Shuttle combo parked in a side area, really great experience to see the two together.

The piggyback has flown into Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson several times. It is a sight. This time Gabrielle Giffords' husband Shuttle Commander Mark Kelly arranged for the pair to circle the University of Arizona campus near downtown Tucson, where they were on a rooftop watching, at 1500 ft. Huh! Some of my ancestors are from Bishop's Stortford.

It's wonderful to see Gabrielle Giffords doing so well. A year ago I never would have believed it possible.

It worries me a bit that she always seems childlike. But truly an inspiration. She says it is the hardest thing she's ever done and I believe it. One of the few Congressmen who seemed to think about what she was doing and not just parrot the party line. I miss her.

Good one Scott, although I had to switch over to IE to watch it full screen.  :good:

This is a cool vid to watch. I love the shuttle squeezing past the houses, can you imagine working out the logistics of this? :DntKnw:

It was a 12 mile trip. they did have to cut down 265 trees along the route. To get that through in L.A., the museum had to replant four times as many trees, repair additional sidewalks, and offer scholarships and job training.
