Bernard to Announce 2013 IRL Schedule
« on: September 25, 2012, 12:41:27 PM »
In an odd move, IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard said that he will announce the 2013 IndyCar schedule on Speed TV's Wind Tunnel. Speed is a direct rival of the series' TV partner, NBCSports Network. I don't know if this is a deliberate slap at NBCSports or just another incredible blunder on Bernard's part.

Bernard says he want 19 races next season. It has already been confirmed that Edmonton will disappear from the 2013 IRL calendar.

The Canadian IRL rights changed hands this year.

The new network, Sports Net (owned by the cable company, instead of the old provider, TSN, owned by the phone company) promised to provide better coverage, in return for MORE Canadian content.

Now sure how cancelled Edmonton gets that done, unless they're going back to Vancouver AND Montreal (or Mosport, or Mount Tremblant)

For the first time in years I didn't follow IRL this year.Partly
because of work and the biggest part because of the new
engines and look of the cars.

Same here, Dare. I've tried to keep up my enthusiasm, but I just can't. The new cars just leave me cold.

BTW, there is a rumor that has been going around for that past week or so that Kentucky Speedway will be back on the schedule for 2013.

Aside from the Indy 500, I haven't watched IRL since their inaugural race.  (Coverage in Canada was spotty.)

To be fair, I missed CART's last two seasons as well.

I like watching F1 in the morning, and just can't justify spending my whole day watching racing.

I'm going to give IRL another look next year, IF they have the different aero packages they promised for this year.
