Moss
« on: October 27, 2012, 12:21:17 AM »
Am I going blind?  ... I don't see Stirling Moss listed here.

He had a big impact on my teenage views of driving and racing.
I purchased a book he wrote in the early 50's, and in it he clearly explained the driving methods necessary to get the most speed out of a vehicle.
To this day, I still use those techniques and they have withstood the test of time... flawless even during police persuits (your guess which side).

I think he may have been the first successful driver to seriously analyse racing and think it through totally, and then applying his theories aggressively... to the point of abstaining from sex for several days before a race.

His only flaw, strictly from a results point of view, was his insistence on driving less-than-the-best cars. But for this I admire him the more.

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough.” ― Mario Andretti.

For most of Moss' career, Ferrari was the best team and Moss didn't like the way Enzo ran his team. He didn't insist on driving lesser cars, he just refused to drive for Ferrari. Enzo finally agreed to loan a car to Rob Walker just before Moss had the final crash.

Whoever have any doubt about Sir Sterling Moss ability is either a fool or a stupid. He is a class of his ow, and a benchmark of respecting your opponents. He is just unlucky not to have a championship beside his name, but there is no doubt in the fact that he is one of the greatest driver of all time, if not the greatest.
Keep running the fast cars, you will be never out of girls
