Who needs what to win title
« on: November 20, 2012, 01:14:09 PM »
Planet F1

Either Sebastian Vettel or Fernando Alonso will be crowned 2012 World Champion when the chequered flag falls at the season-ending Brazilian GP on Sunday.

Defending champion Vettel heads into the title-deciding race as the favourite to win his third consecutive crown as he holds a 13-point lead over the Ferrari driver following his second-place finish at Austin.

However, Formula One has proved in recent years that it's not over until the Fat Lady sings and Alonso is sure to go all out to in an attempt to win his hat-trick of titles.

Here are the permutations for the 2012 Championship.

Vettel will win the title if...
* He finishes in the top four
* He finishes fifth, sixth or seventh and Alonso is second or lower
* He finishes eighth or ninth and Alonso is third or lower
* He finishes 10th or lower and Alonso fails to make it onto the podium

Alonso will win the title if...
* He wins the race and Vettel is fifth or lower
* He finishes second and Vettel is eighth or lower
* He finishes third and Vettel is 10th or lower

All things considered, I'd rather see Ferd win. I think he's a more accomplished driver than Seb, and more deservfing of being a 3 time WDC.

But it's close.  ;)

It'll be the first time I'm rooting for Nando since his first championship year.  :swoon:

I'd like Vettel as a non finisher, mechanical or other, with Massa on the top step Maldonado next and Nando in 3rd please.  ;)

I'm an 'anyone but Ferrari' fan.  Unless there's a Canuck in the Scuderia, they're The Team that Must Lose to me  :tease:

I'm for Vettel. I don't think he's all that bad a kid.

The wise man says and the young one follows.. even if I am a Ferrari fan, I would love to see Vettel win 3rd consecutive WDC. He is a fun kid, with blistering pace, and a great design team behind..

Actually this should have been a season between Hamilton and Vettel, they were out and out fastest of the whole season. And Hamilton is not here because of McLarens reliability issues, while Vettel have to wait upto the finale because of his reliability issue as well. Alonso drove great, he literally pushed that slow Ferrari absolutely to the limit, but for me Vettel deserves it more..

I guess Alonso will be regarded in the folklore of Ferrari, as the person who could not take a Ferrari to WDC like Prost and Giles, yet they were the best among the fields..

Alonso had a couple of crash related dnf's that that
put a damper on his WDC bid

And not his fault at all.  He very likely would have been at least tied with Vettel going into the last race if people hadn't used him as a crash fence.  Like I said, I don't think Vettel 'deserves' it this year.  Alonso has proven to be the driver in a slower car who has brought it onto the podium more often than it deserved to be, so for the WDC, I would be happier to see Alonso get it.  RBR deserves every bit the WCC though - they have once again built the car to beat this season.

Dare - you have missed some permutations
What if:-
Ferrari break the seal on Vettels gear box
Ferrari pay Schumacher to drive into Vettel
Alonso's manager gets involved and arranges for Massa to crash in front of Vettel
Ferrari invoke a clause in the 'alledged' 2014 contract telling Vettel that Alonso is faster than him.

Really; I don't think you have thought this through!
