Pic to Caterham for 2013
« on: November 23, 2012, 01:15:55 PM »
French driver Charles Pic will move from Marussia to Caterham for the 2013 season. Caterham's current drivers are the Russian Vitaly Petrov and Finn Heikki Kovalainen. No word from Caterham yet if they will pair Pic with one of their current pilots or bring a pay driver on board.

Speed was say Geido Van Der Garde would be his teammate during practice today.

Based off of how Murssia has been going recently, plus the added prize money this year (uless Caterham finishes 11th Sunday) I wouldn't be surprised if Murssia has a better shot of finally breaking into the midfield.

Surely you mean another pay driver Cos, Pic has a lot of money behind him from French companies and his family.

My guess is Van der Garde already has the contract, without the extra prizefund for 10th place they won't want to pay driver salaries. Feel sorry for Heikki, but results are everything in sports and he has failed to deliver this season.

I reckon Caterham will use this last old regs season to try to balance the books before making a bigger push in the new 2014 era.

Some people think Bernie might do a deal to keep Vitaly in somewhere for the Russian race next year, otherwise Van de Garde should be in.

Given that Petrov did take that coveted 11th place today, this may change things quite a bit in terms of driver choice, as the team have more money to play with than they probably thought that they would coming into the race.

Petrov has had a good end to the season overall, but Kovalainen, for me, is a better driver.  It makes sense for one of them to stay though, as changing both drivers seems a bit of a gamble for a newish team to me.

As for signing Pic, he has looked more promising as the season has gone on, and has generally made few mistakes, so he could be a good signing.  I remain to be convinced about his ultimate pace though.
