F1 Will Race at Nurburgring, but it Might not be German GP
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:20:03 PM »
A deal has been struck for F1 to race at the Nurburgring as scheduled this season, but it might not be the German GP.  The Nürburgring GmbH holding company, which filed for insolvency last July, confirmed the race on Thursday.

Richter and Lindner's leaseholding company previously negotiated with Ecclestone, meaning Nürburgring Automotive GmbH may still seek to claim the rights to the race's traditional title, the "German Grand Prix." It is therefore possible that the race will instead be labeled the "European" Grand Prix.

Talk about Word jargoan..Why it can't be a German grand prix? Possibly the sponsor issue may be. Whatever is the reason, I am happy that we didn't loose another GP...

There are a couple of organizations fighting over the track concession. The one in charge at the moment doesn't have the rights to the name. So, they can stage a race, but they can't call it the German GP.

It wouldn't be the first time that this has happened.  It has been the European Grand Prix before, and was even the Luxembourg Grand Prix in 1997 (an infamous race it was too, when Ralf Schumacher collided with his team mate and his brother at the first corner on lap one).

I don't mind what they call it, so long as the race happens.
