Printed doors
« on: April 09, 2013, 04:07:05 PM »
Not sure if a mere printed door quite deserves 'Cool stuff' status, but it looks pretty cool in the flesh. A printer I use (nr Maidstone, Kent) prints directly onto almost any substrate, including doors, like this example showing a Ferrari. Actually looks really good. If there are any print nerds out there, the printer is a Durst Rho 800, amazing machine.

Yeah that is really amazing, :swoon: the door is obviously not flat but sculpted - so I'm guessing it's some sort of inkjet or spray gun printer?

That's wild.  Just for curiousity, what would such a paint job cost (the customer) on a door?

Yes it's a proper panelled door, not flat, and yes it's an inkjet, capable of printing on anything up to at least 20cm depth, at a guess. It's kinda the Rolls Royce of flat-beds, although there are some nice Mimaki flat-bed printers coming out at 2.5m+ wide also. I use it for printing white ink onto acrylic - Durst ink keys pretty well.

That's wild.  Just for curiousity, what would such a paint job cost (the customer) on a door?

If you brought a door to a printer with a Durst and supplied the image, I can't see them charging more than approx £75, given the size. I think this printer (Speedscreen) is looking at supplying the door as well, I'll look into it.

Any image of course can be used. I might, money permitting, look at doing some cartoon characters or something on my kids' bedroom doors - inside of the door only mind!

I thought somebody might have it printed with a picture of the room inside of the door? Then, they would sit back and watch people walk into the closed door, thinking it to be open ;)
