The Electric Car that Folds in Half!
« on: August 22, 2013, 02:12:40 PM »
This all-electric car, created by engineers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, can fold itself completely in half when parking.  The Armadillo-T seats two adults and has a top speed of 37 miles per hour.

A 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack powers four in-wheel motors. By putting the motors inside the wheels, the designers freed up space in the car for people. It charges in 10 minutes and can drive about 62 miles on a full battery. Cameras in place of side mirrors reduce blind spots.

F-ugly!      What happens when someone parks behind the folded up bit?  Wonder what kind of speed it gets with little weed-whacker motors built inside the wheels?

Now here's a new one from Gordon Murray Design.  Still not beautiful, but I think I would be a heckuva lot happier driving a car designed by a top F1 designer.

The technology seems quite different & fun, may not be all that eye pleasing, but it does opens up new avenues for further development. Honestly I think the design is quite cool :good: :good:

Racer thinking; build it strong and light. Chapman would be proud.

It definitely isn't weatherproof. Scott, I think they mean for people to pivot them around on those little drop down casters.

Don't care much for Murray's. It looks like a Lego Smart4Two.
