We lack such character in modern era
« on: August 23, 2013, 06:22:54 AM »
I was immensely impressed would be such an understatement as because not even in my imagination I could came up with someone who loved motorsports so much, that he would not do it for the money.

Good one BD. When Rob Walker stopped covering F1 for Road and Track, Ireland took over. He was very good, and always had something no one else got. I was always sad that R/T gave up race coverage, saying other media got the news out first, because the magazine had writers who could capture the essence of F1 far better than the more newsy rags.

If you find anything in the net, would you please let us know Lonny? I would love to know about this guy's writing ability.

I agree, Lonny. R&T's writers, like Ireland and Phil Hill, always gave me insight into racing that I couldn't find anywhere else.

Here's an Innes Ireland piece from last year, BD.

I have a dog-eared copy of Ireland's "All Arms And Elbows" and it is a very interesting and funny snapshot of his era in Formula One.
I would love to read what he really wrote before the lawyers got a hold of it and sanitized it.
