Kimi Brake Failure
« on: August 27, 2013, 05:10:37 PM »
It appears that a visor tearaway was lodged in Kimi's  brake duct and this was the cause of the high brakes temps that led to the brake failure and retirement.

Now, how did Vettel sneak into Lotus and stuff his tearaway into the duct?

Ali suggested it happened already on the installation lap (who tears off on the installation lap??), so maybe you aren't far off.  Someone pretends to drop their keys by Kimi's front wheel and 'Voila' a DNF for Kimi  ;) ;)

I put nothing past Marko. Was he in the pit lane?

I wonder if this will lead to a design change in the ducts. Maybe ducts that can be easily cleared of blockage. Possibly a simple grille on the front of them.

I seem to recall a certain multi champion German driver try to throw a tear away directly in the path of a gaining car.

I was discussing this with my husband, and he asked why they're allowed to throw them on the track.  I think that's a good question.  I know the cockpits are cramped, but there's certainly room to stash a few little pieces of plastic safely.

They usually tear them off right after a pit stop.  Not sure if there are rules about doing it on track or not.

Maybe a new rule about where they can be discarded should be in the works.
I agree with Jeri's husband, why are they on track?

Just wipe the visor with the back of your glove, like the old days.  ;)
