The original thought was to move F1 power plants a bit closer to what most manufacturers use in their road cars. It was hoped new manufacturers would decide they could learn something here and join in. Didn't happen. VW just said no, and the American companies have no interest in F1. Ferrari objected to 4 bangers, so they compromised with V-6s. The only good to come out of it so far is the FIA persuaded the ACO to spec a similar engine for P1 at LeMans. Maybe there will be some crossover, though personally I doubt it. I say go back to the old days, spec a displacement and let them go.

Yes Lonny among few things which indicate we can be a bit positive about the engine. This may pave way for Audi, Toyota & possible Porsche to be a engine supplier for teams, and may force the current manufacturer to reduce their price, they are asking now. But that is a very optimistic idea, and by the time they interested a supplier, there might not be enough team left to run their engine  >:(

Bernie must be kicking himself after spending so many years trying to get VW to join F1 so he can suck on the nipple of their cash horde.  Sorry, Bernie, VW seem to be just a bit too smart for you.

Porsche & Audi are too deeply into Le Mans to bother with F1.

The whole point of F1 is to be exotic, pure racing machines. If we want to see cars that are "more relevant" to production cars, we can watch DTM.

Hear hear Cos...and an interesting bit about the cost of fuel from F1.. During a typical season a Formula One team will use over 200,000 litres of fuel for testing and racing, and these can be of anything up to 50 slightly different blends... ... So if Ferrari, for example, were to rock up to a UK petrol station with July’s average price at the pump that would cost them £271,000. A drop in the bucket for an F1 team.

I agree that F1 should remain exotic and pure,  :good:  -  but the relevance of DTM
to road cars is purely for bankers and other high earners.  :P

Most of us have to make do with the models honed in Banger racing.  ;)
