Last month I met a couple of wing suit flyers at a big festival up in our village. One was an American from California who is taking a year to learn the sport up in Chamonix (F), and the other is actually from our village - I know his Dad quite well. I didn't know about his son doing the flying before, but it turns out he is one of Switzerland's best wing suit flyers, and is even semi-pro, doing commercials and stuff.
Of course I put my foot in it. They had told me they were base jumpers and so I take the next logical step and say wow, that's dangerous, but now those wing suit guys, they're simply nuts. They then went on to explain that base jumping was just their intro drug to adrenalin, but they were both wing suit flyers and even showed me a video they had made the day before. I still think both base jumping and wing suit flying is people with a quasi death wish, and that a good portion of those who do it regularly will most likely not die from anything else.
