New Indy Road Course Unveiled
« on: November 05, 2013, 02:43:48 PM »
IndyCar has released the changes that will be made to the road course at The Speedway. The new course will be used for the horribly named Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

The Turn 1-2-3 complex has been reduced to a simple chicane. The same has been done to the former Turn 6-7-8 section. This had already been done to the Turn 9-10-11 section of the F1 section. Sadly, the long, full speed section from the old Turn 12, through Turn 13 (Oval track Turn 1) and down the front stretch will be broken up with a series of 3 turns through what had been a parking lot.

With all my heart, I want to love IndyCar

It's the racing I grew up watching, and I loved it.

But outside of the 500, I just can't seem to care.  It just seems like a long list of how not to run a racing series.

It may not be run the best, but apart from that it produces some phenomenal racing. What else is needed to love it?

I don't know.  It just might be me.  I watch F1 in the morning, but Indycar is on when I'm busy.

It's easier to make time for F1

I follow Indycar when I can, however it's hard to get consistent regular coverage here in Britain.  :(

The racing is pretty good. Lots of drivers won a race this year and who was quick changed from track to track. I just can't warm to the way the cars look and judging by Franchitti's crash, the rear "bumper" doesn't work the way it was supposed to. Like nearly every form of racing these days, it's basically a spec series with any innovation stifled.

That's pretty much the way I feel about it. I keep hoping things will get better. I though maybe the aero kits would help, giving the cars at least a little bit of individuality. It looks like that idea is dead, though.

Sums it up  for me too.Like Jeri I really wanted to
like IRL but besides the 500 I can't warm too it.

As far as the  new road course I really wished they'd
have kept the long fast straight away.Kind of merged the
500 and road race into one.
Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
