New big cockpit display available to F1 teams
« on: February 17, 2014, 07:44:51 PM »

McLaren electronics large PCU-8D F1 screen can replace old PCU-6D.

Most of the big teams will want the new larger and better screen for their cars, however some teams may be budget limited and will still use last year's display.

check out the vid below to see how much more info the new unit will provide. Surely though the size of the thing will make it seem more like playing a video game to the drivers than an actual race.  ::)

I don't know.  Seems like more information than a driver really needs, especially during a race.

It's a show-reel of sorts I think, showing what the screen's capable of. Drivers won't be analysing graphs mid-race. I think it's great from a fan's point of view. More info, more interest. The on-board cameras might highlight things from this screen we were previously unable to see.

Currently it's hard to make anything out - during Sky analysis sessions with Antony Davidson on the Sky-pad, they sometimes enlarge a grainy section of the dash to show differences in gear changes between drivers for example - it's usually hard to see anything. This screen may well show these things with more clarity.

Of course, the proof's in the pudding - what do the drivers think? Looking forward to finding out.

And can you play Flappy Bird on it??
