Great Dane!
« on: March 17, 2014, 01:19:13 PM »
I see that Kev was the first Dane to make the F1 podium... And on his first outing too! A future champ if ever I saw one - I bet that Button is a bit worried... Great drives from Bottas, Ricciardo (despite the penalty) and Kvyat too... As per usual though, a lot of 'What ifs' and 'If onlys'...

The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical.

Definitely a good showing from the young drivers in F1.  The future of the sport is in good hands!

Yeah, someone mentioned during the coverage at the weekend that maybe the 'old hands' are somewhat restricted purely because of what they've been used to in the past - whereas the rookies are adapting better as it's all totally new to them...

On one hand it sounds true, but on the other hand, drivers like Hamilton, Alonso, Raikkonen and Vettel have shown instant aptitude for F1 racing too.  They haven't lost those adaptive skills that won them championships.

Sure it was a good drive from K-mag but it was also pretty straight forward, he had a good grid slot and made good use of what looks to be the 2nd or 3rd best car in the field. Lewis early departure opened up a podium place and it was clear at about 10 laps in that Force India and Ferrari were just unable to keep on terms with the three front cars, plus Jens really was never going to catch him either without a 2nd safety car. I would have been more impressed if he had made the gains during the race that Jens made.

However having said all that it's not always easy to keep your head in the big league when you find a clear home run is possible, so respect for Kevin's podium.  :good:  I think the biggest thing for him now is he knows he can make the podium so his confidence will be sky high. However it may not prove as easy to repeat the feat and I hope he doesn't feel the need to take reckless chances to try to continue making the podium.

Exactly! ...and a good point well made. It's very easy at this stage for rookies to do well in the first race only to become as you say, reckless or arrogant in future meetings. Big respect, but lets see how he progresses...

On another point, I remember hearing about his Dad, Jan when he was driving for McLaren, being caught by 'RonGod' smoking a fag prior to a race... I seem to remember that being one of the reasons why he left for Stewart... 'RonGod' wasn't best impressed.   >:D
