I see one irony: We're not surprised by Putin's actions, but the Western World has been surprised by them politically. He's land-grabbing like the old days, when everyone was at it. It's not the done thing now, and we've forgotten how to deal with it.

I understand that the USA has an Army in Afghanistan that has to pass through Russia in order to get home.
