Will 2014 be Button's last year in F1?
« on: June 10, 2014, 04:29:29 PM »
That was the title of the column, but in fact the summary seems to be that it probably won't be.  I agree with Katie (why does a grown woman refer to herself as Katie?) for a couple of reasons.  Even if Button is basically done all he came to do in F1, the prospect of Mclaren/Honda is awfully enticing to give a try.  Plus, as she says, Mclaren probably don't want to have Magnussen as their team leader quite yet, so that would mean if Button left, they would be pressed to find a top driver (Kimi likes playing musical chairs, so you never know), and would need one with experience.

Jens will be in the McLaren Honda next season, two reasons:- A. no so called big beast like Vettel, Alonso, Lewis, or even Kimi will opt for the Macca seat until the Honda power unit is shown to be up with and capable of beating the rest. B. Jens is still a match for the rest on the grid.  :P

I didn't realize Button had to get permission from Vettel, Alonso, Lewis or Kimi if he wants to retire.  ;)

Probably not fond of Katherine or Kathleen.

You mean like Katie Curic? Katie Perry? Katie Holmes? And, for you John Wayne/Dean Martin fans, Katie Elder?

I think that 2015 will be decisive in how long Button continues for.  If the car is good, and he starts winning a few races again, then he may continue for a bit longer.  If not, then I think he'll pack it in.  It seems clear to me that he's understandably missing his father at race weekends, and if the car continues to drag him down as well, his level of enjoyment is probably likely to keep falling.

Button might be the man that Haas Formula is looking for for their 'experienced' driver.  Even if he loses his home at McLaren, he could spend the year testing for the American team.
