World Cup

Well, it all seems to be going to plan...Brazil winning the opener.  Holland drowning the Spaniards hopes for another win, Switzerland and France winning their openers, USA finally winning a WC match, Germany stomping on anyone in their way, and England...well...er, ok - better luck next time.

And good old Sepp Blatter smiling away in the VIP box organizing for his next election, and wondering why Bernie doesn't always have to be voted in...after all, he IS the Bernie of Football, isn't he?

And me and my family going on a nice bike ride and what did we ride past?  Nothing less than the honorary Sepp Blatter Football Field in his home town of Urlichen, only a short ride away from here.  What a swell guy.  Well, at least us Swiss in this region think he's a swell guy.  ;) ;) ;)  Did I mention he's been with us for lunch a few times?  Really a nice guy - at the time I didn't even know who he was (my wife told me later).

Don't be fooled by his seemingly pleasant demeanour. Sepp Blatter is an appalling crook. The huge bribes and iron-fisted control of the sport are one thing, but it's his resistance to making simple and effective reforms to the football rules that annoys me.

Nothing like Bernie at all!

I actually just read something about the World Cup over here in the States:
“You can search the world over for the finer things, but you won't find a match for the American road and the creatures that live on it.”

To be honest comparing Bernie with Sepp will be insulting each other. There is no denying the fact that the world of F1 that is today is the creation Bernie, whether you like it or not, but it has been shaped entirely in the way he wanted, while Mr. Blatter can take no such credit for shaping the world of football, which is as it is today, instead it could be said he is reaping the benefits of the hard work of the others for his own. But there is something I would like to mention for Mr. Blatter's sake, the tremendous improvement by the smaller nations in this year's world cup, you have to give FIFA the credit for atleast being there for the development of the game, and as the chief of the FIFA, he does get the credit for this.
Keep running the fast cars, you will be never out of girls
