Microsoft Pulling the Plug on Internet Explorer
« on: March 19, 2015, 12:31:04 PM »
Even Microsoft has finally given up on IE. They have announced that Windows 10 will contain a new browser, codenamed Spartan. It will also have a version of IE in anticipation of compatibility issues.

Was never the best browser.  Hopefully Spartan will not be overrun by the competition.

:(   I use IE and found it hard trying to adapt to Chrome or Firefox - so I never did.

Not all of us are able to easily embrace the fast changes that go on in browsers and systems. I get that things move on but every time they say they have improved the software why are a lot of us left scratching our heads over how to do the simplest of tasks that we used to take for granted?

That is the problem with success, you have to keep doing what made you successful, even if it means doing something that won't bring you success in the future.

I have clients who are running Windows NT because their software is old, but works perfectly fine.  If they were to update to newer versions of windows, the software wouldn't work.  If they were to update their software to a new version of windows, it would cost millions of dollars, and do the exact same thing it does now.

You'd be surprised how many companies using internal software based on old versions of Internet Explorer there are, because it works, and 'new and improved' features don't mean a lick to them.

I know exactly what you mean, Jeri. We have accounts whose software won't function properly with newer versions of Windows.

I'm an example of that, too. About ten years ago, British Motor Heritage put out a series of CD-ROMs. They contained all of the parts, service and owners manuals and even the parts microfiche for various classic British cars. I have the set for my MG Midget Mk III and the British Motor Company Special Tuning (factory racing & high performance) set. They are absolutely great for restoring & maintaining these cars. Sadly, they don't work on anything beyond XP, and BMH isn't putting out newer versions.
