Red Tire Rule
« on: March 08, 2007, 03:46:48 AM »
I've just read from three different sources that the FIA has said that there will be some form of the "Red tire Rule" this year. That is to say that there will be a way for the fans to see which compound tire the teams are using. This was done "with the unanimous agreement of all competing teams" in the past days, the FIA said.

Yes cosworth, they are going to put on white circles so that fans will be able to tell what compound is being used.
I think they have ruled out the Red Tyre idea because of expense, as there are so many tyres involved at GPs,and they are still deciding on the circles idea.

That's a shame. Those red sidewalls are would have gone so well with Renault's and Honda's paint jobs!

Formula One tyres will display a visual indicator to show whether they are made from a hard or soft rubber compound. The last-minute regulation will apply to all Bridgestone tyres and must be in place for the Australian Grand Prix on March 18.

The ruling brings F1 in line with ChampCar, in which a red ring around the side of the tyre indicates a soft compound.

However, a Bridgestone representative told autosport.com that they would not colour their tyres, opting instead for another visual marker.

"There will be a marking on one of the different specification of tyres," the spokesperson said.

It is expected that a large white circle would be placed on the side of the tyres, assuming it was visible while the wheel was in motion.

The latest on the subject.
