First F1 equipment lands in Melbourne
« on: March 08, 2007, 08:18:50 AM »
Ahead of the 2007 season opener, the first jumbo jet filled with 110 tonnes of Formula One equipment has touched down at Melbourne's Avalon Airport.

Chartered by Formula One Management, three more Boeing 747s carrying the actual cars are scheduled to arrive soon, before the local company Gibson Freight moves the lot south of the city to the Albert Park pit lane.

The last plane touches down on Sunday, a week before the Melbourne race.

"F1 is the biggest job we do all year," said managing director Bill Gibson, who organises fourteen trucks for the job.

All the equipment and cars will then be waiting for F1 team personnel on Monday morning, according to the newspaper Herald Sun.
