Former Jordan/Midland/Spyker driver Tiago Monteiro has signed to drive for SEAT in the World Touring Car Championship this season. The deal came too late for him to drive in Brazil, but he will be in the car by Zanvoort.
“The WTCC is one of the few real world championships, and it becomes bigger and more important year by year,” Monteiro explained.
“The promotion and the image are really nice, and the promoters are doing great work.
“Since testing the car in Valencia, I realised that the team has great experience and can compete at the highest professional level.
“With the team’s help I am sure that I will be able to learn rapidly in such a different championship and to be among the best as soon as possible.”
I watched him get the only podium of his F1 career at the 05 USGP. He was the only one having a good time at that fiasco, but who could blame him? I had the pleasure of talking briefly with him at Indy last year. He seems a nice enough fellow and, in my opinion, a better driver than some who got F1 rides this year. I hope he finds his way back.
