Huge Applause for Haas
« on: March 20, 2016, 11:07:55 AM »
6th place on a one stopper and their other driver was on pace to maybe get points as well until Alonso ended his run.

I won't compare Haas and Mclaren because Haas chose a winning engine and borrow a ton of components from Ferrari while Mclaren do most of their own manufacturing.  But nonetheless, Haas managed to keep most of the gremlins away from the car through testing, practice and the race, and that is a massive accomplishment in F1.

Gutierrez complained of some engine issues early in the race, but given what happened to Raikkonen's engine, I suspect that's a Ferrari problem rather than a Haas issue.

I've been very impressed with Haas throughout winter testing and this first race.  They have the potential to finish eighth in the constructors' championship in my opinion, which would, for a new team, be an outstanding result.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Haas. They have done just about everything right so far. I hope they keep it up.

As I mentioned in the Chat Room, they have caught on to one part of F1. The team t-shirts cost $60 US on their website.

Ditto that, huge applause.

What's the reaction from the US - commentators and fans? Does this promising start have a positive effect on how F1 is viewed in general? Maybe a bit early to say...

It is nice to see that an F1 team can actually be built and competitive!

I haven't seen or heard a single word in the mainline media. Hopefully that will change.

I take my hat off to The Haas team for their 6th place finish in their first ever F1 race. :good:

However they can't always rely on a red flag to enhance their result so it will be interesting to see if it's a one off.

Doubt we'll hear much from American media until they win.

Or have a spectacular crash.

We got much better coverage when the race was at Indy. Even my little hometown paper, the Eagle Gazette, carried F1 standings & results. After it left The Speedway, it dropped out of sight.

They came rather close to getting one - had Fernando and Esteban's places been swapped...
