It's Safer To Drive Fast!
« on: March 21, 2007, 08:19:40 AM »

Listen up because you are not likely to hear this very often. Driving fast on a motorway is safer than driving at normal speed on a small road close to your home.

That is according to the latest figures which show that more people crash on lanes, single-track roads, A-roads and dual carriageways than on the UK's motorways.

A massive nine million motorists say that they have had an accident on a road near to where they live.

Moneysupermarket.com has revealed that 25 per cent of motorists have had an accident on a minor road, while 23 per cent have been involved in a collision on a slightly bigger A-road or dual carriageway.

This is compared to just five per cent of drivers who have had an accident on a motorway, making the UK's motorways six times safer than smaller roads.

"Whilst motorists must remain vigilant at all times, danger clearly lurks close to home for many drivers, with collisions most likely to happen in their neighbourhood and places they visit regularly," remarked Richard Mason from moneysupermarket.com.

"This suggests motorists become complacent when navigating familiar routes, often leading to costly prangs and resulting insurance claims."

Of course the study doesn't mention that crashing on a motorway at 80mph is likely to do far more damage to the driver than crashing on a smaller road at 30mph.

"No Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you rich."
