Toto says Lewis can race for 5 more years
« on: October 06, 2022, 04:17:55 PM »
Merc boss Toto Wolff say that Lewis Hamilton could race for Mercedes for 5 more years. Wolff says that the two of them are already discussing Hamilton's contract for 2024.

"Last week we sat down and he says 'Look, I have another five years in me - how do you see that?' We are totally transparent with each other," Wolff said.

Wolff's response to Hamilton was that he thinks he is more than capable of emulating Fernando Alonso and racing well beyond his 40th birthday.

For once, I think I agree with Toto.

Modern F1 drivers undergo absolutely spectacular diet/exercise/training regimes to keep them fit for F1 racing.  Angela Cullen is responsible for Hamilton's longevity as much as anyone else.

The great drivers are the ones who adapt, winning in different eras, recognizing strong teams and helping to keep them strong.  Hamilton may not be the 'best' in 5, but as long as he can keep himself in a top car, he's got a chance.  If you're an up and coming engineer with a chance to work with Hamilton or some guy who finished third in F2, who are you going to pick?

Lewis has his fitness dialed in and there is no reason he can't race into his 40's.

I think it will depend on how he does against Georgie.  He was pretty fragile at the beginning of the season when both the car and his teammate were getting the better of him.  He has responded well now that the car is up to snuff, and as long as he is able to hammer his teammate down a few notches, he will be where he needs to be mentally.

I also think he has unfinished business with Max that will haunt him if he walks away from the sport without dealing with it.

Remember that LH was the one experimenting with the car at the start of the season not GR and since that has stopped LH has go the better of GR.
