F1 Fan Voice just put up these 2 videos with Steve Smith, the guy in charge of on-board cameras for F1. In the first, he explains how the entire system works. For example, I didn't know that the signal to allow DRS activation goes through the camera unit on top of the roll hoop.

In the second video, he answers fan questions about the system.
