I can't wait to see how bad Alonso makes Stroll appear.

Stroll's teammates have included Massa, Vettel and Perez.  3 drivers who have career best championship finishes of 2nd or better.  Alonso is an excellent driver, but he's not going to outclass those three and make Stroll look bad.

That said, Stroll really should be on his 'make it or break it' season.  He's gotten a fair shake at F1, he's done well if not spectacular.  He's shown that on a good day he can contend for race wins, but he doesn't appear to be able to create good days like top drivers can.  If he really is made to look bad by Alonso, even us Canadian race fans will agree it's time for Stroll to make way  for younger talent.

When you view it purely as a driver pairing I guess I can see why most opted for Merc pair. If they posed the question another way - which driver pairing would you want if you are a team boss? - the top answer still remains valid.

On Alonso v Stroll argument I rather think it depends on whether Nando is willing to add to development task, suggestion is he took back seat at Renault, hardly a team leader position now is it.  :nono:

I see nothing wrong with Lance contiuing on for a few years, sure he is not likely to challenge for the WDC, but hey nor are most on the grid. He's earn't his right to be in F1 and if car improves so will his showing.
