Williams give a tour by drone. What struck me is sheer size of place to put just 2 F1 cars on the grid.

The F1 facility tours all go to show just how much there is to an F1 team vs what you see on race day.  Most other sports have their athletes, and an arena/stadium that probably has offices somewhere in back, and that's it.

I'm sure a single F1 team's footprint is enough to hold a small town, and I'm sure many of the operations must feel like a small town.

As an aside... can we appreciate just how sci-fi a miniature high definition camera easily flying around a compound that big is?  Like even Star Trek never dared imagine something like that, and yet I can just go buy one with next day shipping for less that a set of snow tires

It's bit weird that nobody seemed to notice a drone zipping by them as they walked down a hallway.  ;)

A far cry from places that folks like Tony Vandervell, Colin Chapman and Lance Reventlow worked out of in the early days.

Wouldn't that be something?  Instead of a budget cap, give each team a square footage cap!

I seem to recall one of the 70s privateers using a phone booth as an office (I'm thinking Frank, but maybe even Bernie?)

Having been involved with some drone and video work staff/clients are instructed to not look at the camera if they do that footage is not used and mostly retaken.

That's why I put the little wink at the end. I figured it was either that or Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

I wonder how many times the drone did the same run as it hit something or a glitch or...whatever.
I worked in the film business for many years and have been out for over 20 years now. Back then all aerial shots were done with helicopters which were very expensive to have on set, and time-consuming to set up or change camera positions.
I have a good friend who still is in the biz in Eastern Europe and he can't recall a film he has worked on in the last 20 years where a drone was not used at least once.
Now, it is almost a daily event he tells me.

The piloting skills of some drone operators is outstanding.

Why do I get the feeling that it is an animation?

It'll be the real thing as cost would stop animation to that quality.
