British Car Show
« on: May 20, 2023, 04:44:33 PM »
I'll be off to Columbus tomorrow (Sunday) morning for the annual Central Ohio British Car Day. This year's feature marque is the Lotus Elan, celebrating it's 60th anniversary. Also celebrating the 100th anniversaries of both MG and Triumph.

It's held at a Quaker Steak & Lube, an auto themed restaurant-bar chain.

I'll have some pix posted ASAP afterwards.

It was a great day. Bright and sunny but not too hot. Here are a few overviews by marque:

See if any of you can identify this beauty from 1967. It's the first one I've ever seen in person.

I reckon it's a Bristol 410, Cossie.

Or then again it might be an Alvis Graber coupe.  :DntKnw:

A bit rarer than either of those. Hint - It was the only production marque ever built in its part of the UK. (That may have changed recently)

Here's a bit of history. The 1939 Rolls Royce Wreath that was the personal staff car of Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery.

Now with that extra clue I reckon it's a Gilbern from Pontyprdd in Wales Cossie.

Your car looks more similar to the Invador because of the door mirror position, however because pictured car was from 1967 it must be a Genie, the forerunner.

The same body shell was used on Genie & Invador with some tweaks & improvements. So Gilbern Invador, which had more production & sales was really a Genie Mk 2 and was available from 1969.

Right you are, John!  :good:

I had a chance to talk with the owner at the patio bar. The original owner purchased it at the 1967 Earls Court Motor Show. It lived its first decade in London, then its 2nd owner brought it Stateside. The current owner found it in a barn where it had been for about 30 years with "structural issues." He did much of the restoration work himself. It's a "matching numbers" car. Even the rear number plate is original.
