Whether banning blankets will help save planet or not I feel a real opportunity to spice up racing has been lost.

If you look at how many F2 cars were slip sliding, both on track and coming out of pits, in Spa Feature race on cold tyres you can see it threw a refreshing element of jeopardy which is sadly missing from F1 now cars are mechanically more reliable & have such downforce to keep them stuck to track in high speed bends.

Sure drivers and therefore by default teams don't like a blanket ban, but are they shortchanging us fans?

With RBR dominating this and possibly next year couldn't a blanket ban be the spanner in the works to mix up podium results?

I don't especially care either way.  However I feel that if there is an extra cost to changing tires (half a lap of warm up), then we will see more uniform strategies with fewest possible pit stops.

Maybe that's what people want to see, everything decided on track.  For me, the last couple of races have really shown that a strong tire strategy can make a difference.

And as for 'stopping Red Bull', there is nothing that can be done that would harm Red Bull without harming anyone equally, if not more, unless they want to handicap successful cars/racers/teams (which I'm not opposed to out of hand, but understand why people would oppose)

Exactly, they are so dominant they will adapt better to any rule changes than the rest. Isn't that what happened last year with changes aimed at stopping the cars from porpoising?

Seems Merc still are not on top of porpoising if Spa was anything to go by.  :o

My point is even the top drivers can make mistakes on cold tyres, I see taking blankets away as more a driver thing than something curable by tech or aero.
