Australian Grand Prix winner Kimi Raikkonen blitzed the competition in the second day of Formula 1 testing activities at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit, where all F1 teams except Spyker are working this week.
With a best lap of 1:35.268, the Finn put his Ferrari nearly half a second ahead of the competition, and lowered Robert Kubica’s best time from yesterday by almost 0.9sec. Williams-Toyota’s Alex Wurz, third on Tuesday, managed the second-best time today.
Just 0.010 behind the Austrian, Red Bull’s David Coulthard completed the top-three, ahead of Ralf Schumacher’s Toyota and Kubica’s BMW.
Lewis Hamilton drove the sole McLaren in action to the sixth spot, one spot ahead of Super Aguri’s Takuma Sato. Other than once more hinting at Aguri’s good form, Sato’s performance also outpaced Honda’s works team yet again, as Rubens Barrichello could do no better than eighth, while Jenson Button was 10th.
The other Aguri driver, Anthony Davidson, made his driving return after injuring his back in the opening laps of the Melbourne race in a clash with Spyker’s Adrian Sutil. He posted the 11th-best time.
