Renault boss Flavio Briatore is already looking towards 2008 to help his team through a so-far troubled 2007.
The reigning Formula One constructors' champions have struggled this season, with Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen claiming just nine points between them after three grands prix.
The French marque are already 35 points adrift of current leaders McLaren, and 30 points behind Ferrari, with apparently little hope they will reclaim their crown.
That is why Briatore is hoping plans for next year's car can be adapted to this season's model as they look to address current problems.
"We are already working on next year's car," said Briatore.
"There's no point messing about, that's our objective. Whatever we discover on this project, we can eventually use it on the current car."
Briatore, though, appreciates his team are going through a blip after winning the constructors' crown in the last two years, and the drivers' titles with Fernando Alonso.
"You see it so many times in F1," Briatore added in Autosprint.
"Look at Ferrari, Williams, McLaren. It's the normal cycle you have in this sport.
"It's so competitive that the smallest difference - 0.02 second here, 0.1 sec there - means you can finish a lap or two behind or three tenths slower.
"And that's the difference between fourth fastest and being ninth."
