US want night race
« on: May 27, 2007, 05:59:39 PM »
TEXAS Motor Speedway owner Eddie Gossage has approached formula one supremo Bernie Ecclestone about staging a night race in the US.

With F1 planning an inaugural night race in Singapore next year and Albert Park's Australian Grand Prix under pressure to move its race to the evening to accommodate European TV, Gossage has sent Ecclestone an invitation to attend a night-time oval Indy car race at TMS on June 9, the day before the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

TMS staged the first-ever Indy car night race in 1997.

"I think it would be of great interest to Mr Ecclestone and his staff to visit Texas Motor Speedway and get an opportunity to witness and evaluate open-wheel cars running at high speeds under the lights," Gossage said.

"Although a road course would offer different challenges, we could educate them about our lighting system and discuss some of the issues we encountered when we staged the first-ever night-time race in 1997.

"I think a night race for formula one would be a terrific event for the sport and we would like to help them achieve that goal."

Oh please God, not Texas! TMS is yet another Boring Charlotte Clone. Of all the places I go in the country, Dallas is by far the worst. High priced, high crime. The track has an interesting lake on the grounds. The lake appears to have an Indy car, a NASCAR car and NASCAR pickup floating on it. It's where they dug the dirt to make the high banks.

Leave the race at Indy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All this talk about night racing makes me wonder
what the cooler temeratures would do for
the performance of the tires
