Theissen hoping for quick action on new regulations
« on: May 29, 2007, 11:57:52 PM »
Apart from the on track action, or lack of it, there was quite a lot going on behind the scenes of the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend with discussions about the future Formula One regulations continuing in earnest between the FIA and the eleven teams involved in the series.

In fact, the actual dialogue started two weeks earlier when the teams all gathered in Barcelona for the first race of the European season, the Spanish Grand Prix and as a basis for discussion the FIA had introduced a consultation paper. On that basis, the manufacturers are invited to bring in their opinions and propositions and this will happen in the coming weeks.

BMW Motorsport Director, Mario Theissen has revealed that the topics involved are actually a completely new concept and they as a manufacturer are in full support and hoping it is sorted out sooner rather than later so that they could get the ball rolling before the new concepts come into play in 2011…

“From a technological point of view the topics discussed are very interesting,” Theissen said on the team’s official website. “We are talking about a completely new concept, which will also be relevant for series production. That's why BMW basically supports this approach. What we have to avoid though is sky rocketing of costs. It is important that we commit ourselves early, in order to stretch the development work over several years.”
