Kubica crashes

Videos of polish F1 driver Robert Kubica's horrifying shunt during Sunday's Canadian GP have already appeared on internet video sharing site, You Tube.

The BMW driver appears to have escaped relatively unharmed, with reports from the team suggesting that a sprained ankle was the worst of his injuries.

That was one awful shunt. It's a tribute to modern F1 design that he survived at all, much less with so little injuries. US TV was reporting that he had a broken leg.

Yup, broken leg, one lucky man considering the magnitude of that crash, just shows how safe the cars are now.
An aircraft landing is just a controlled crash.

lucky fella...unlikely he'll drive for the next few races because of the nature of head injuries...see how quick the medics were at the scene

human brain is designed for frontal impacts , side impacts are the killer...so he's very lucky he hit the wall head on.

without ppl like sir jackie stewart, he'd probably be dead now :good:

the hans device is probably why he's still alive, that's
what there designed for head on wrecks,

i understand what youre saying about hans, but you're forgetting about the laws of motion. Kubica's brain hit the inside of his skull at the speed of the impact of his car, and then was battered all around the inside of his skull as his car rolled, so while he might of got out of his car apparently ok, its what u cant see that will be worrying his doctors

in the 50's and following the medical advances in WWII regarding brain injuries, Dr's found that a simple little device called a seat belt prevented fatal brain damage injuries in car crashes so much so that the "victim" could simply walk away with no brain damage whatsoever. by the 60's they found some ppl walking away apparently ok and healthy collapsed and died approx 48hrs after the crash.

So out came the monkeys and they crashed loads of cars in every way imagineable and what they found was that when the brain hits the skull side on it damages the nerves that connect the 2 parts of the brain and within 48hrs the damage would be so bad the victim died. Once they knew this, they developed drugs to repair the nerve damage

this is what will be worrying the doctors and it wont be untill wednesday at the earliest that they will understand the full extent of the injuries

Many drivers of the past 35 years owe their lives to Sir Jackie. F1 couldn't have gone on with the death rates as high as they were getting to be in the sixties. Just look at the tracks back then, with trees right beside the track, and it's hard to believe that there weren't even more deaths.

By the way - yesterday, June 11, was JYS's 68th birthday.
