Don't give up hope, Raindancer. I didn't think I'd survive our daughter's teen years. She seemed to take self-destructive rebellion to new heights. I'm glad to say that we did all find our way through it. She's in he late 20's now and doing fine.

I even get revenge. Remember "The Parents' Curse?" Someday, you'll have a child just like you! I did worse to Angie: Someday, you'll have a kid just like ME!!!!!

And my grand daughter surely is.

Hang in there.

Going completely OT, but carrying on with the present discussion, my 2 have a mind of their own too.

Daughter Debbie is 28. Has a mind of her own. Taking a vet degree specialising in horses, but is a fully qualified teacher. Presently on a summer job in Southampton teaching at an International school but will be going to Kenya for a couple of years, also teaching at an Internatioinal school there, and probably earning much more than I can ever have hoped to earn. Single with plenty of company but no intentions to settle down and make us grandparents. Very level headed.

Son Josh is 24. Carolyn brought him to watch Dad hill climb when he was 2 days old. What hope has the poor kid got! He was brought up with racing cars. Started RC racing aged 9 and has won 8 National championships. Now hill climbs successfully in a car he built himself. He won overall at the most recent event last month. He'll be moving jobs and coming to work with me in a couple of months.

Incidentally the whole family is very much into motor racing. My brother David (57) still races. My brother in law Alex (same age) raced for many years. Now his son races successfully too. And most of the cousins do too.

Guess what the topic is at family reunions!

Thanks ! I really empathise with that thread. Kids these days seem to think we are square. I wish I could tell kids all what we did for instance we got stoned in a railway station one day and woke in jail and such stories.
The music is another thing I cannot relate too either.
How many of you are rap fans here ?

That's one of the advantages when they grow up. They'll be floored by some of the stories of your youth.

As for rap, it's something very easy to do very badly. There are a few I like. I just try not to sound like my father did the night that The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. The Fat Boys duet with The Beach Boys on "Wipe Out" comes to mind, and some of Tone Loc's stuff. A local jazz musician does a rap of Dr. Suess's "Green Eggs and Ham" that is really cool.
One other thing about mine growing up. It turns out that "Grampa" is a whole lot smarter than "Dad" was. ;)

RAP. Can't stand it. That's not music. And as for the vulgar language used, well, it should never be published.

But then I suppose we're old. So bloody old that just this morning I have an appointment with the man at the social services to sort out my pension!
