Giancarlo Fisichella has worked out a deal with Italian tax authorities, agreeing to pay €3.8 million (US$5.2 million), news reports said Saturday.
Fisichella received a notice from the Italian tax agency that his residency in Monaco was in question and that he owed €17.2 million (US$23.4 million). After showing that he had paid dues abroad, Fisichella worked out a deal with the Italian agency and will only have to pay €3.8 million, the ANSA news agency reported.
The tax records for Italian racers have come under the spotlight recently since seven-time motorcycling world champion Valentino Rossi was found to have alleged undeclared earnings of €60 million (US$81.7 million).
Rossi has been a British resident since 2000. He has said he did nothing wrong and that he expects the situation to be resolved soon.
