1  Mass   just when you write him oss he wins
              the pole and the race

2   Kimi     steady drive for 2 nd place finish

3  Heikki   drove Renault to respectable 6 th place

Top three drivers of the day then:

1... Nick Heidfeld - quietly and efficiently did his job, being always ready to benefit from the mistakes of the leaders (and he had his reward when Hamilton's tyre exploded).

2... Lewis Hamilton - though it pains me to say it, he drove like a master today, hanging on to the Ferraris although it was obvious that they had a performance advantage, keeping things together when the tyre exploded and going fast enough in a wounded car to keep the position fate had handed him.

3... Jenson Button - for taking the few opportunities the car gave him and putting it higher than it deserved to be.

Nico Rosberg - It was he who was the difference.
Felippe Massa - Very confident Job. He did make a couple of mistakes.
Kimi- Drove well and didn't take out Massa.

A very difficult one because I don't think any of the drivers was outstanding.

Massa qualified well but held Kimi up all race.

Kimi qualified badly but made up for it right at the start and pushed Massa all race.

Lewis made a slight mistake in qualifying, then was unlucky.

Fernando has got the grumps and this is effecting him psycologically. He's blaming everything and everyone. When Cesare Fiorio was asked what he thinks about the situation at Mc Laren vis-a-vis Alonso / Hamilton, he replied that if Alonso wants the team to put it's efforts his way he has to prove himself first and stop criticising everything and everyone. He went further and suggested that with the championship situation as it is and with Hammy's superior performances perhaps the team would do well to put more of it's support Hammy's way.

Another interestingcomment from Fiorio was about Montezemolo's criticism of the points system. At the beginning of the season Luca had criticised the fact that ferrari were winning more yet Macca were leading the championship. Fiorio gave the present situation to counter that. He asked what luca has to say now. !2 races run. 6 won by each team and 3 by each of the top 4 drivers. Mc Laren were ahead, and rightly so, he said, because they were more reliable.

Isn't nice to listen to an Italian who isn't warped and biased.

The exact oppusite is the TV commentator. Running out of things to say about his SPY STORY he has now started on about his LOVE STORY. I wish they'd find the guy a job commentating football. It's more his cup of tea.

Massa - he won without making any errors on Sunday
Raikkonen - ditto (except he was a little slower and therefore didn't win)
Kovalainen - for making a good effort and netting some points as a result

1. Massa - Drove a good race to stay out front of Kimi

2. - Hamilton - Didn't loose the car when the tier failed. Got it back to the pits without tearing up the car, and held onto 5th with a damaged front wing.

3. Button - Put a Honda ahead of both Super Aguris

So are you not choosing a driver of the day, John?  If you were underwhelmed by the performance of the front runners, why not look further down the field?  It's boring hearing the same old names mentioned anyway.

What of Rosberg and Kovalainen?  Heidfeld and Button?  Liuzzi and Davidson?  Surely one of them must have flattered their machinery enough to have deserved the award...

To be honest, all the drivers you mentioned performed admirably. I just don't think anyone was outstanding. I suppose I'm just being the usual pain in the ARiStocracy.

Madam always said I'm a difficult bugger.

Very well then. I'll go for Kovalainen. ;)

I have got Rosberg as the star and Kimi because he didn't take out Massa despite being as fast he is.
Rosberg drove a brilliant race according to me.

Davidson - mostly due to the excellent qualifying run
Button - kept going when plenty would have said 'why bother'
Massa - had the best car but still drove it perfectly

In addition I have to compliment Hamilton for doing all the right things when his tyre failed

Although I gave my nod to Kovalainen I agree Davidson did a truely solid job all weekend so perhaps I should give him my #2.

At the risk of being criticised again for praising Hammy, I too admire his knack of keeping his cool in situations. You'd think he's been racing f1 since he was in nappies.
