Bugatti drive.
« on: August 30, 2007, 05:56:49 PM »
Over the last couple of months I've been keeping myself and my keyboard fairly busy with my involvement in 2 motorsport happenings. I am chairman of the newly founded Malta Motorsport Federation, and have also accepted to do most of the federation's paperwork, and I have also accepted a post on the organising committee of the forthcoming Grand Prix de Malte. You can google their very nice website.

The French organiser turned up at a meeting yesterday driving his fabulous 1926 straight eight Bugatti. What a little jewel. It's not concours. In fact it's just as I like to see them, with a patina that shows their age, and shows that they are used.
Well the good news is that some time next week I have arranged to road test - track test it for our local motorsport magazine Nitro. Now that should be fun.

You can see the first 2 issues of the mag online at www.nitro.com.mt

I always liked the look of Bugattis.  They always seem to look just right.  I once spent an interesting few hours in the museum at Mulhouse in France (just across the Swiss border from Basle/Basel).  It holds the collection of two brothers (Schlumf - or something like that).  It is full of Bugattis including Royales and other rarities such as a 1970 Ferrari F1 car.  One that Enzo didn't chop up.

The Schlumf brothers museum is one of the best in Europe. I haven't been yet, but some friends that have were impressed with the stuff they have in there.

It's enormous apparently, and has the biggest collection of Bugattis under one roof.

I'm road testing it Tuesday afternoon and looking forward to it. I'll put a pic in here.

Actually it's owner Thierry Giovanoni who is organising the Grand Prix de Malte later this year, joined me for a good evening at a drag (racing) meeting last evening. We got home rather late ......... this morning!

Now that is one beautiful machine! :yahoo:

It appears to be a bit lacking in aero, though. (Thank goodness)

The Schlumpf museum is well worth a visit.  If anyone visits it wear something warm because they keep it really cold even in summer.

In addition to all the Bugattis, race cars and historic road cars they are having a chocloate exhibition.  What more could anyone want.
