Traction control

Or lack of it!

Is it going to make a difference will we see drivers who can control it like Button's gentle approach to the throttle and others who screw their tyres due to wheel spin.

Starts should be more interesting but will launch control still be used?

I'm looking forward to it putting more control down to the driver rather than a backroom guy with a PC.

I think it will make some difference, but
not as much as we hoped for. They need
to lessen the aero too

Andy made a good point.

Everybody talks about removing traction control, but what about launch control?

All of this is another example of Max saying one thing then doing another.  About ten years ago he put out a statement saying he was going to ban all driver aids.  Apparently things like traction control are impossible to police.  I would have thought all that was needed was to insist that a cable be connected from the accelerator to the throttles.  Nothing other than the drivers right foot should be allowed to control the fuel/air into the engine.  Seems fairly straightforward to me.

Ah yes Steven, but the word straightforward doesn't exist in Max's dictionary.

Just like the word fair doesn't.

As there is going to be a standard management system for all teams it should be easy to police traction control I shall have to find time to look in the technical regulations for launch control.

Apparently things like traction control are impossible to police.

I guess he couldn't hear that raspy growl from the engines when the TC kicks in. That sound is the only thing I'll miss about it.

johnbull, launch control was banned in 2004. Hence why nobody talks about it - much.

I don't think there are many drivers who were in F1 pre-TC.  DC, Rubens, Ralf and a couple of other possibles.  In GP2 and other series that feed F1, there is no TC, but it would be difficult to compare the lower series with F1 without TC.

It will be interesting to watch drivers unfamiliar with having to "play" with the throttle exiting turns and etc.

This could make for some overtaking situations simply because one driver gets out of a turn more cleanly that the other and so is in position to attempt a pass at the next, in spite of aeros.

All in all, it should make things more interesting more about driver skills.
