Was'nt it painful seeing Graham Hill as
a actor.Liked that part where he tripped over
something.

I said that this film is one of the extras on the "Grand Prix" 2-DVD set. There is another one about F1 racing in the 60's. Check that one out, Rom. It does a good job of showing the sport that we grey beards fell in love with in our younger days.

One of the things it talks about is how deadly the sport was back then. Matt Bishop says that when he was young, he feared reading the news the day after a race. He didn't want to see that one or more of the drivers had died.

The 2 DVD set has a good feature about Brands Hatch, too.

Cos you also said when director Frankenheimer asked
Bandini where the most likely place for a accident
to occur at Monaco,he said the chicane by the harbor
where he had a fatal accident 2 years later

That's right, Dare. Frankenheimer's widow tells the story. She talks about how muh they liked Bandini and how stunned they were to hear of his crash.

Like everyone else I have seen the film a few times but this behind the scenes film is facinating.

I think in the deleted message I made some comment about looking round the drivers meeting and counting those who died in the next few years.

The 60's feature does a nice job on this point. After talking about the deaths of the era, it shows stills of the drivers, one by one. Each of the photos fade out as the next one comes on.

By the way, Wolfgang von Tripps isn't in the film. He was killed at Monza in 1961, five years before the film was made.

I had watched both this film and the 1961 French GP film earlier today so it was still in my head.

I should have also mentioned Jim Clark and Jochen Rindt previously.

Off Topic but I watched Siffert win at the Syracuse GP in 63.

First GP I actually watched live. I was 17.

Very very good.....it still shocks me completely that people were running on the track while the cars were at full speed......now I understand why so many people died as a result....... thank goodness for Jackie Stewart and his safety crusade... 1 death was too many....

I am certainly going to have to watch this movie....possibly even add it to my collection.

Thank you very much for educating me Dare

It amazes me how many people stood close to the apex of corners.  Especially photographers.  I can't remember no whether it was in this film or the 61 French GP film that a photographer is lying on the ground close to the apex of a corner.  Incredible.

That's why we call them "the good old days!"  ;) Now they make us stand behind concrete barriers like the one the TV boom guy in the picture is behind. (and the one I was standing behind when I took it.)

If you watch many films ot the circuits like Spa that were run on closed public highways, you'll see spectators right at the edge of the road. It looks like the WRC! Watch the Spa section of the film "Grand Prix." You'll see the track runs right past the front doors of homes, with people standing right at the edge of the road.

By the way, the pix is Button in Turn 10 at Indy during Friday morning practice.
