Who's on what engines?
« on: October 11, 2007, 03:51:01 PM »
I suddenly thought that as this last race is running up to the wire anything could come into play and that includes engines so who will be running a new engine in Brazil?
I've lost track on who's on what?
Anyone know?

For the three that matter, KR and LH are on new engines, FA on an old (2nd race) one.

Thanks Scotty

I'll bet if FA has an engine problem the press will have a field day!!

I've got all three down as on new engines. Have I gone wrong somewhere?

After FA's crash in Japan, they changed the engine - there was too much stress on it.

Did he lose another engine earlier in the season?  If not he would have had a ten place penalty in China.

No, the engine could not be repaired...the rule is that they can change it without penalty if it's damaged in a crash, and it was.  I was too vague in my mention of stress - there was stress damage.  The article I read on it was also a bit vague.

sorry.

The last time Fernando Alonso changed his engine was after the Japanese GP. As a non-finisher, he was entitled to change the engine, regardless of whether any damage had in fact occurred on the engine. Brazil will be the second race since then, so logically he should be on the second race of his engine. (Sorry for saying that he was on a fresh engine - I now realise my error, which was caused by an unclear number on my engine chart).

Lewis Hamilton last changed his engine after the Chinese GP. The same reasoning applies to him as to Fernando. However, the Chinese GP is the race before the Brazillian GP, so he is on the first race of his engine.

Kimi last had an unscheduled engine change after the British GP. That was seven races prior to the Brazillian GP. Since it is an odd number, Kimi is on the first race of his engine.

I keep track of this sort of thing on my blog, but I haven't put up the Brazillian engines yet (I leave that sort of thing until next week). However, if you would like me to put up everyone's engine status here, I'd be happy to do so.

Alianora must have just won the competition for finishing the sentence on how you know you have been watching too much F1.  You know you have been watching F1 too long when you keep engine charts.

And the worst of it is that I started doing them in Monaco 2005 because my friends on another forum were fed up of arguing over whether Kimi Raikkonen was on his first or second race engine (in case anyone cares, he was on the second race of his engine). Or maybe it isn't (for why it maybe isn't, check my latest entry for the "Complete the sentence" contest...)

Good God, Eleonora. You've gone up in my esteem.

I didn't think anyone kept those sort of stats.

Or am I just getting too old. ;)

I just like keeping stats. Especially when they come in useful :)
