F1 on Top Gear
« on: November 29, 2007, 10:05:33 PM »
1. Lewis vs the Stig
Britain's F1 golden boy will make his first ever Top Gear appearance this Sunday at 8pm on BBC Two.

2. Hammond in Renault F1 Car
Renault temporarily loses its senses and hands Richard the keys to a full-blown Formula One car.

It's sure to be a great show as always.

How lucky can you get?  First you work on Top Gear then they give you an F1 car to play with.

I am surprised Renault are prepared to do this because when The Stig drove it to set a lap time about a year ago it wasn't actually The Stig in the car it was Heikki Kovalainen.  If they are not prepared to let a proper racing driver drive it then why are they letting the Hamster play with it?

It's ok here too, on Virgin so I can replay it when I want for a week.  :good:

ian, I suggest that you go to the BBC's site. You will have no trouble finding Hamilton's lap...

For the rest of it, I'd suggest sticking "Top Gear" and either "Renault F1 Car" or "Hamilton", according to which segment you want. Not that this is legal, but there you go.

The lap and the rest of Lewis's appearance can be found at the link above.

He clearly made a huge impression on the Top Gear team judging by Clarkson's comments at the end of the clip and the comments of Andy Wilman the show's producer whose comments included
Quote
"I still keep replaying his second to last corner, because I've never seen a piece of driving quite like it," wrote executive producer Andy Wilman on the show's website.

"The world is governed by the rules of physics, but he just seems to have his own set./quote]

Personally I keep watching the last two corners.  I still can't figure out how he turned in so sharply to the last corner without the car becoming totally unstable or how he carried so much speed into the second last corner.

It is interesting that on a wet oily track he set exactly the same time Jenson Button set in the dry.
