You too can own a Ferrari
« on: March 16, 2008, 04:48:47 PM »
Bizarre automotive brand extension of the week Can't afford a Ferrari yet crave a motorized set of wheels bearing the iconic prancing horse logo? Granted, you'll never go zero to 100 in 3.9 seconds, but for the financially challenged, there's a whiz-bang Ferrari Edition Segway on the market retailing for a mere $10,000.
The Segway is that seldom-seen, two-wheeled, self-balancing electric transportation device. Yet, given the mechanical pedigree of the Segway, it would seem this vehicle is the very antithesis of a 500-horsepower sports car. As well, we regret to report that the Ferrari Edition of the Segway PT i2-- festooned with the Ferrari logo and a flaming red paint job -- is still a Segway PT i2.

Until some electrician invents a turbocharger compatible with a Segway, the Ferrari Edition of the PT i2 won't go any faster than a run-of-the-mill PT i2. As for the cool factor inherent to most exotic cars, we fear this might not be quite so evident when the Ferrari in question isn't street legal and is required to travel exclusively via sidewalk.
