Thank you for the good wishes, everyone!

I've spent most of today going to, from and being in an interview. It was for a Library Assistant in a library in Sheffield. Getting there involved a train, a bus... ...and an hour-and-a-half of walking due to the bus stop named for the street the library was on being nowhere near the street in question. I still got there in time to check where everything was, go get a cheeseburger from a nearby eat-in restaurant (can't remember the name of the place), come back and sort out my paperwork.

The interview itself went well, but could have gone better (I got a bit confused at one statement). That said, one of my questions to them generated some silence and an uncertain reaction too and their reaction when they found out I had a First Aid Instructor qualification went along the lines of "That was an unexpected bonus - can you train our other staff members if you get the job?" The good news is that I haven't been rejected outright at this point and I beat about 92 other people onto the short-list. The bad news is that it'll be a few weeks before the winning candidate gets his or her CRB check cleared and that with about 29 other candidates on the short-list, the winner might not be me...

Anyway, after getting back, I got phone calls from my employment consultant (checking how the interview went) and my best friend (her birthday was yesterday; we also discussed chopsticks, houses and budgies). I've just had turkey with all the trimmings except for Brussels sprouts (the turkey and stuffings were frozen leftovers from Christmas) and there's going to be chocolate birthday cake soon.

The "do" was yesterday night - my parents and I went to a Chinese restaurant, where I entertained them with my questionable chopstick skills (they sensibly ate their food with forks). The food was good, the music was OK (once you got used to eating Chinese food to the rhythm of early Britney Spears and other pop tunes) but the service was slightly slow.

Shell, that's a really nice banner. Thank you for making it.

Wiz, no need to worry - according to my computer, it was still my birthday when you sent that message (as indeed it is for another four-and-a-half-ish hours).

Dare and neil, I received a thick red zip-top and a yellow T-shirt for my birthday presents. Good practical stuff. And a Creme Egg :)
