Italian billionaire and Renault Formula One team owner Flavio Briatore landed in Malindi Monday.

The visit comes only seven days after the departure of his former girlfriend and now business partner British super model Ms Naomi Campbell.

Mr Briatore, the owner of the prestigious Lion in the Sun exclusive tourist resort, situated in the posh Casuarina area, was in the company of his girlfriend, E. Gregoraci, and three other passengers, all Italian.

Mr Briatore’s exclusive silver coloured private jet touched down at Malindi airport at 1.46pm from Cairo, Egypt, where it usually makes a stopover from Rome, Italy, to fuel.

The other two passengers were identified as Mr M. D’Onofrio and Mr G. Fasciano, said to be members of his Renault team.

Grand Prix

According to the East and Central Africa and the Middle East regional manager of the Flavio Briatore Africa Group of companies, Dr Liana Pierino, Mr Briatore will, stay at the Lion in the Sun for three days ahead of a Grand Prix race in Bahrain.

Security was tight at the airport as the jet touched down.

Mr Briatore’s arrival comes hot on the heels of a visit by Ms Campbell, whose declaration of Kenya being safe for tourists after the post-election violence, is said to have sparked great interest in Europe.

It is expected that the declaration will attract more visitors to the Coast.
