In a press conference today, Apple announced that sales of the Mac Book Pro have been disappointing. Market research indicates that this is due to the ultra modern, thin design. Apple have been forced to rethink the whole design and plan to release a new 'thicker model' in the second quarter of 2008. While sources differ in their information, it appears that the new Mac Book Pro will ship with a new G1 single core processor and 16MB of RAM.
While this seems like a substantial downgrade from the current model, Apple's CEO has a different opinion. "Here at Apple we are keen to modernise the latest Mac Book Pro by embracing the current trend of retro design."
Apple's Technical Director added, "We plan on shipping this new Mac Book Pro in a bunch of different colours. We expect high demand for the new models, because people like colours. And that's what we're going to give them." Besides the colour, the new Mac Book Pro will look the same thickness of the current model but the cost to the end user will increase by approximately 20%. Apple claim the higher price was due to "things in Asia."
Dell also announced they are working on completely revamping their laptop designs. Dell representatives claimed the new machines would use a slightly lighter shade of black, while a larger logo on the front of their machines would strengthen their brand awareness.
Microsoft also announced a major upgrade to their highly-acclaimed Windows Vista operating system. A Microsoft representative stated the new Vista 2008 will feature the same bugs and security holes as the old version, but it will include a new start-up chime. The eagerly awaited upgrade should be available in 18 months.
