Last Ever Champ Car Race
« on: April 18, 2008, 03:13:34 PM »
The last Champ Car race ever will be this week-end on the streets of Long Beach. It's only happening because of a deal made to get the IRL/CCWS merger to happen. IRL has a race this week-end at the Twin Ring Motegi in Japan. Neither it nor Long Beach could be rescheduled, and IndyCar wanted to keep Long Beach on the schedule for next year.

At last report, 20 of the Cosworth powered cars will take the flag for Sunday's start. It is held in the oceanfront area of the city that once hosted the USGP West.

It will be on ESPN2 here in the states at 5:00 pm EDT Sunday.

Sadly, the (Cosworth) Chevies left a few years ago. All IRC cars are now Honda powered.

Will Power won the last ever Champ Car race in the Aussie Vineyards car. Several former F1 drivers were there. Franck Montagny got second and Enrique Bernoldi was fourth. Antonio Pizzonia was 16th, last among the running cars, and Justin Wilson was 19th, suffering an early race failure.
